Hausfrau ermordet 1942 in Ratno

Batia Rotszyld wurde in Ratno im Nordwesten der heutigen Ukraine geboren. Die jüdische Bevölkerung der kleinen Stadt lebte vor allem von Kleinhandel und Handwerk. Im Sommer 1941 besetzte die Wehrmacht Ratno. Kurz darauf mussten alle Juden einen Davidstern auf ihre Kleidung nähen und ihre Wertsachen abgeben. Ende August 1942 trieben Mitglieder der SS über 1000 Männer, Frauen und Kinder zu einem Steinbruch außerhalb der Stadt und erschossen sie dort. Eine der Ermordeten war Batia Rotszyld.

Batia Rotszyld was born in Ratno, a town in the northwest of modern Ukraine. Most of the Jewish families in this small town made their living from small businesses and crafts. In the summer of 1941 the Wehrmacht occupied Ratno. Soon, all the Jews had to sew a Jewish star onto their clothing and give up their valuables. At the end of August 1942 members of the SS herded more than 1,000 men, women and children to a quarry outside the town and shot them. Among those killed was Batia Rotszyld.
