Leib Tov

Lehrer und Händler, geboren 1907 in Skuodas/Shkudy/Shkud, ermordet 1941 in Skuodas/Shkudy/Shkud

Leib Tov lebte in Skuodas, einer litauischen Kleinstadt nahe der Grenze zu Lettland. 1938 heiratete er Sara Heilperin und bekam mit ihr einen Sohn und eine Tochter. Leib Tov versorgte die Familie als Lehrer und Kaufmann. Ende Juni 1941 besetzte die deutsche Wehrmacht Skuodas. Unmittelbar darauf begannen litauische Kollaborateure unter der Führung des Litauers Kostas Vasaris mit der Ermordung der Juden des Ortes. Sie trieben etwa 500 Männer in einen Wald außerhalb der Stadt und erschossen sie dort am Rand von Gruben. Einer der Ermordeten war Leib Tov.

Leib Tov lived in Skuodas, a small Lithuanian town close to the border with Latvia. In 1938 he married Sara Heilperin and they had one son and one daughter. Leib Tov supported his family as a teacher and a merchant. At the end of June 1941 the German Wehrmacht occupied Skuodas. Shortly afterward, Lithuanian collaborators led by Kostas Vasaris began to murder the town’s Jews. They herded about 500 men into a forest outside the town, and shot them there at the edge of ditches. Leib Tov was among those murdered.
