Ester Rain

Sekretärin, geboren 1906 in Kaunas/Kowno/Kauen, ermordet 1944 in Stutthof (KZ)

Ester Rain wurde 1906 in der heute litauischen Großstadt Kaunas geboren. Sie war eines von sieben Kindern des Kaufmanns Shaia Vitkin und dessen Frau Basia. Ester Rain war Sekretärin und heiratete 1930 den drei Jahre älteren Buchhalter Aron Rain. Es ist nicht bekannt, ob das Paar Kinder hatte. Im Juni 1941 besetzte die deutsche Wehrmacht Kaunas, und Familie Rain musste im Ghetto leben. Die Nahrungsration betrug dort nur 700 Kalorien täglich. Ester Rain überlebte drei Jahre lang und wurde im Juli 1944 in das Konzentrationslager Stutthof deportiert. Hier verliert sich ihre Spur.

Ester Rain was born in 1906 in what is now the Lithuanian city of Kaunas. She was one of seven children of a merchant, Shaia Vitkin, and his wife Basia. Ester Rain was a secretary and in 1930 married an accountant Aron Rain, three years her senior. It is not known whether the couple had children. In June 1941, the German Wehrmacht occupied Kaunas and the Rains had to move into the ghetto. The food ration amounted to a mere 700 calories a day. Ester Rain survived those conditions for three years, and was deported to Stutthof concentration camp in July 1944. There all trace of her disappears.
