Josef Kaplan

Josef Kaplan wurde 1913 in der polnischen Stadt Kalisz geboren. Vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg war er Mitglied der zionistischen Jugendorganisation Hashomer Hazair. Als die deutsche Wehrmacht im September 1939 in Polen einmarschierte, befand sich Josef Kaplan in Warschau. Im dortigen Ghetto schloss er sich dem Untergrund an. Seine Wohnung in der Nowolipki Straße, die er gemeinsam mit einer Freundin bewohnte, war ein Treffpunkt des jüdischen Widerstands. Unter anderem produzierte Josef Kapłan dort gefälschte Ausweisdokumente. Am 3. September 1942 wurde er verhaftet und wenige Tage später im berüchtigten Pawiak-Gefängnis erschossen. Josef Kaplan war 29 Jahre alt.

Josef Kaplan was born in 1913 in the Polish city of Kalisz. Before the Second World War, he joined the Zionist youth organization Hashomer Hazair. When the German Wehrmacht marched into Poland in September 1939, Josef Kaplan was in Warsaw. He joined the underground in that city’s ghetto. His apartment on Nowolipki Street, where he lived with a girlfriend, was a meeting place for the Jewish resistance. Among other things, Josef Kaplan produced false identity document there. On September 3 1942 he was arrested; he was shot a few days later in the notorious Pawiak prison. Josef Kaplan was 29 years old.
