Naftali Landau

Ingenieur, geboren 1888 in Zamosc/Zamość, ermordet 1943 in Lemberg/Lwów/Lwiw

Naftali Landau wurde 1888 in der polnischen Stadt Zamość geboren. Er war Ingenieur und lebte mit seiner Ehefrau Golda und zwei Kindern in der heute ukrainischen Stadt Lemberg. Nach der Besetzung der Stadt durch die deutsche Wehrmacht wurde Naftali Landau zu einem Mitglied des Judenrates bestimmt. In dieser Position war er dazu gezwungen, mit der SS und der Gestapo zu kollaborieren, ihnen Zwangsarbeiter zu vermitteln und Namenslisten für Deportationen zusammenzustellen. Im Gegenzug genoss er dafür zunächst einige Privilegien. Doch nach der Auflösung des Ghettos am 30. Januar 1943 ermordeten SS und Gestapo fast alle Mitglieder des Judenrates. Eines der Opfer war Naftali Landau. Er wurde 55 Jahre alt.

Naftali Landau was born in 1888 in the Polish city of Zamość. He was an engineer and lived together with his wife Golda and their two children in what is today the Ukrainian city of Lvov. After the occupation of Lvov by the German Wehrmacht, Naftali Landau was appointed as a member of the Jewish council. Because to his position, he was forced to collaborate with the occupiers. He had to recruite forced labour to them and he had to write deportation lists. In return, he enjoyed some privileges at first. But after the liquidation of the ghetto on January 30th, 1943, the SS and the Gestapo murdered almost all members of the Jewish council. One of the victims was Naftali Landau. He was 55 years old.
