Max Ament

geboren 1895 in Sanok, ermordet 1943 in Majdanek (KZ)

Max Ament kam am 28. Juni 1895 im polnischen Sanok zur Welt. Er ging nach Wien und wurde Fabrikant. Als Österreich 1938 Teil des Deutschen Reichs wurde, floh Ament mit seiner Frau und den beiden Söhnen nach Belgien. Vergeblich bemühte er sich um Visa für die USA. Nachdem die deutsche Wehrmacht Belgien besetzt hatte, wurde Max Ament verhaftet und über das französische Internierungslager Drancy ins Vernichtungslager Majdanek deportiert. Dort starb er vermutlich 1943 mit 48 Jahren.

Max Ament was born on June 28, 1895 in the Polish town of Sanok. He went to Vienna and became a factory owner. When Austria was incorporated in 1938 into the German Reich, Ament fled with his wife and two sons to Belgium. He tried in vain to obtain a visa for the United States. After Belgium was occupied by the German Wehrmacht, Max Ament was arrested and then deported to the internment camp Drancy in France, and from there to the extermination camp Majdanek. He died in Majdanek, probably in 1943, at the age of 48.
