Ilona Baumann

Ilona Baumann lebte im nordsiebenbürgischen Nagy-Szalonta. Als die Region 1940 an Ungarn fiel, begannen die Repressionen gegen die jüdische Bevölkerung. Die ungarische Regierung zog junge jüdische Männer zur Zwangsarbeit ein. Im Juni 1944, nach dem Einmarsch deutscher Truppen in Ungarn, verschleppte die SS die übrigen Juden in das Ghetto Großwardein und von dort nach Auschwitz. Mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit war auch Ilona Baumann unter ihnen.

Ilona Baumann lived in Nagy-Szalonta, in northern Transylvania. When the region fell under Hungarian control in 1940, the repressions against the Jewish population began. The Hungarian government began drafting young Jewish men into forced labour. In June 1944, after German troops occupied Hungary, the SS deported the remaining Jewish population into the ghetto of Oradea, and from there to Auschwitz. It is highly probable that Ilona Baumann was among them.
