Chana Buchman

Chana Buchman wurde im polnischen Pajeczno geboren, einer Kleinstadt zwischen Kattowitz und Lodz. Sie war die einzige Tochter von Ester und David Buchman und hatte noch vier Brüder. Chanas Mutter war Hausfrau, ihr Vater selbstständiger Kaufmann. Die Familie zog nach Lodz. Im September 1939 besetzt die deutsche Wehrmacht die Stadt. Im Frühjahr 1940 musste Chana Buchman wie alle Juden ins Ghetto ziehen. Sie und viele aus ihrer Familie überlebten den Hunger und das Elend des Ghettos zwei Jahre lang. Chana Buchman starb 1942, vermutlich auf einem Transport ins Vernichtungslager Kulmhof. Sie wurde 25 Jahre alt.

Chana Buchman was born in the Polish town of Pajeczno, a small city between Katowice and Lodz. She was the only daughter of Ester and David Buchman, and had four brothers. Chana's mother was a housewife, her father an independent merchant. The family moved to Lodz. In September 1939, the German Wehrmacht occupied the city. In the spring of 1940, Chana Buchman was forced, like all Jews in Lodz, to move into the ghetto. She and many of her family survived the hunger and misery of the ghetto for two years. Chana Buchman died in 1942, probably while being transported to the extermination site Chelmno. She was 25 years old.
