Zeilig Leshnik

Schuhmacher, geboren 1913 in Sokolow Podlaski/Sokołów Podlaski, ermordet 1942 in Treblinka (VL)

Zeilig Leshnik kam im polnischen Sokolow Podlaski östlich der Hauptstadt Warschau zur Welt. Er wuchs hier auf und wurde Schuhmacher. Leshnik engagierte sich in der zionistisch-sozialdemokratischen Arbeiterpartei. Nach dem Einmarsch der deutschen Wehrmacht musste er wie alle Juden der Stadt im Ghetto leben. Am 12. Oktober 1942 umstellten SS-Einheiten das Ghetto und deportierten bis auf 50 Menschen alle Bewohner in das Vernichtungslager Treblinka. Unter den Verschleppten war auch Zeilig Leshnik. Er wurde 29 Jahre alt.

Zeilig Leshnik was born in the Polish town of Sokolow Podlaski east of the capital Warsaw. He grew up there and became a shoemaker. Leshnik was active in the Zionist Social Democratic Labor Party. After the invasion by the German Wehrmacht, he and all the Jews in the city were forced to live in the ghetto. On October 12, 1942, SS units surrounded the ghetto and deported all but 50 of its residents to the extermination camp Treblinka. Among those deported was Zeilig Leshnik. He was 29 years old.
