Alberto Ichaj

Alberto Ichaj lebte in Florina, einer Stadt im Norden Griechenlands. Er war etwa 10 Jahre alt, als die Deutsche Wehrmacht Griechenland besetze. Zwei Jahre später, im April 1943, trieben SS und Polizeikräfte die jüdischen Bewohner Florinas auf einem Schulhof zusammen und deportierten sie nach Thessaloniki. Dort wurden sie in Viehwaggons gezwungen und in das 2000 Kilometer entfernte Auschwitz verschleppt. Die Überlebenden des Transportes wurden im Vernichtungslager mit Giftgas erstickt. Unter den Opfern war auch Alberto Ichaj.

Alberto Ichaj lived in Florina, a town in northern Greece. He was about 10 years old when the German Wehrmacht occupied the country. Two years later, in April 1943, SS and police units forced the Jews of Florina to assemble in a schoolyard, and deported them to Thessaloniki. There, they were forcibly loaded into cattle cars and transported to Auschwitz, 2,000 kilometres away. The survivors of the transport were asphyxiated with poison gas in the extermination camp. Alberto Ichaj was among the victims.
