Efim Vinokurov was born in 1899 in the Soviet city of Simferopol in the Crimea. On 1 November 1941 the German Wehrmacht conquered the city. Many of Simferopol’s 20,000 Jews had managed to flee before the Germans arrived, but many other Jewish refugees poured in from other towns. On 11 December, the mass shootings began. Within three days, the Special Commando 11a, with help from a battalion of order police, murdered nearly 13,000 Jews. It is likely that Vilya Daniman was among the victims. He was 2 years old.
