Ilona Aczél wurde 1888 in Raab geboren, einer ungarischen Stadt am gleichnamigen Fluss.Im Frühjahr 1944 wurde Ungarn durch deutsche Truppen besetzt. Bereits Ende Mai wurden die 5600 Juden aus Raab und Umgebung in ein Ghetto gedrängt. Am 7. Juni trieben ungarische Polizisten die Gefangenen zu Militärbaracken vor der Stadt. Vier Tage später deportierte die SS sie in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz, wo die meisten gleich nach ihrer Ankunft mit Zyklon B erstickt wurden. Ilona Aczél war 56 Jahre alt.

Ilona Aczél was born in 1888 in Györ, a Hungarian city located on the River Raab. In the spring of 1944 Hungary was occupied by German troops. By the end of May, the 5,600 Jews of Györ and the surrounding area already had been forced to move into a ghetto. On 7 June, Hungarian police drove the prisoners into military barracks outside the city. Four days later, the SS deported them to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where most of them were asphyxiated immediately after their arrival, with Zyklon B gas. Ilona Aczél was 56 years old.
