Bela Zuckerbrot

Bela Zuckerbrot lebte in Király Helmec, im Grenzgebiet zwischen Ungarn und der Slowakei. 1938 wurde die Kleinstadt Ungarn zugesprochen und unterlag damit den antisemitischen Gesetzen der ungarischen Regierung. Im Frühjahr 1944 besetzten deutsche Truppen das Land. Am 16. April 1944 trieben SS und Polizeieinheiten alle Juden der Stadt zusammen. Sie wurden zunächst in ein Ghetto gedrängt und von dort in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz deportiert. Die meisten wurden unmittelbar nach ihrer Ankunft mit Giftgas erstickt. Unter den Ermordeten war auch Bela Zuckerbrot.

Bela Zuckerbrot lived in Kiráľy Helmec, in,the border region between Hungary and Slovakia. In 1938 the small town was handed over to Hungary and thus fell under the anti-Semitic ordinances of the Hungarian government. German troops occupied the country in the spring of 1944. On 16 April the SS and police forced all the Jews of the town to ensemble. First they were confined in a ghetto, and then deported from there to the Auschwitz extermination camp. Most were asphyxiated with poison gas shortly after arriving. Bela Zuckerbrot was among those murdered.
