Ilonka Weiss

Hausfrau, geboren 1905 in Batyu/Batovo, ermordet 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Ilonka Weiss wurde 1905 geboren. Sie war Hausfrau und lebte in dem slovakischen Dorf Batovo, einem Dorf in den Karpaten.. Die Tschechoslowakei musste 1938 das Grenzgebiet an Ungarn abtreten. Der Ort hieß nun Batyu. 1944, mit der Besetzung des Landes durch deutsche Truppen, begann die systematische Vernichtung der Juden der Stadt. SS-Einsatzkommandos deportierten sie in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz, wo fast alle mit Zyklon B vergiftet wurden. Wahrscheinlich war auch Ilonka Weiss darunter. Sie wurde 39 Jahre alt.

Ilonka Weiss was born in 1905. She was a housewife and she lived in the Slovakian village of Batovo. In 1938 Tschechoslovakia had to cede the border region to Hungary. The village’s name was changed to Batyu. In 1944, the occupation of the country by German troops marked the start of the systematic extermination of Jews. SS units deported them to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where almost all of them were poisened with Zyklon B. It is probably that Ilonka Weiss was among them. She was 39 years old.
