Bracha Furer

Bracha Furer und ihr Mann Aharon lebten in Chełm im Osten Polens. Mit dem Einmarsch deutscher Truppen Anfang Oktober 1939 begann die systematische Verfolgung der Chełmer Juden. Im Herbst 1940 errichteten die Besatzer ein Ghetto, in dem die jüdische Bevölkerung fortan unter katastrophalen Umständen leben musste. 1942 wurden über 14.000 Ghettobewohner in mehreren Deportationen in das Vernichtungslager Sobibor verschleppt und dort mit Motorabgasen vergiftet. Unter ihnen war auch Bracha Furer.

Bracha Furer and her husband Aharon lived in Chełm, in eastern Poland. The arrival of German troops in early October 1939 marked the start of the systematic persecution of Chelm’s Jews. In the autumn of 1940 the occupiers created a ghetto, and forced the Jews to live there from that on under catastrophic conditions. In 1942 more than 14,000 Jews from Chełm were deported to the Sobibor Extermination Camp in several transports and poisoned with engine exhaust fumes. Bracha Furer was among them.
