Ija Ginc wurde 1892 in Zenta im damaligen Österreich Ungarn geboren. Dort lebte sie mit ihrem Mann Sandor und ihren drei Kindern. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wurde die Region geteilt, und die Stadt Zenta fiel an Jugoslawien. Im April 1941 besetzten Truppen des mit Deutschland verbündeten Ungarn die Stadt. Die meisten Juden, die die ersten Mordaktionen der Besatzer überlebt hatten, wurden im Frühjahr 1944 in verschiedene Sammellager verschleppt. Ija Ginc wurde von SS und ungarischer Polizei in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz deportiert und dort mit Giftgas ermordet. Sie war 51 Jahre alt.

Ija Ginc was born in 1892 in Zenta, then part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. She lived there with her husband Sandor and their three children. After World War I, the region was divided and Zenta became part of Yugoslavia. In April 1941 troops from Germany’s ally, Hungary, occupied the town. Most of the Jews who had managed to escape the occupier’s first mass murders were deported to various transit camps in the spring of 1944. Ija Ginc was deported by SS and Hungarian police to the Auschwitz extermination camp and murdered there with poison gas. She was 51 years old.
