Sonia Novik

Sonia Novik lebte in Pińsk im damaligen Osten Polens. Etwa 17000 Einwohner der alten Handelsstadt waren jüdischer Herkunft. Am 4. Juli 1941 besetzten deutsche Truppen die Stadt. Einen Monat später begann die systematische Ermordung der Juden durch SS-Einheiten. Bis zum Ende des Jahres 1942 wurden alle jüdischen Einwohner von Pińsk zusammengetrieben, teilweise nackt zu Gruben außerhalb der Stadt gejagt und dort erschossen. Eines der Opfer war Sonia Novik.

Sonia Novik lived in Pińsk in what was then eastern Poland. About 17,000 residents of this old commercial centre were Jewish. On 4 July 1941 German troops occupied the town. A month later, SS units began the systematic murder of the Jews. By the end of 1942 all the Jews of Pińsk had been rounded up, and forced to run - some of them naked - to ditches outside the town, where they were then shot. Sonia Novik was among the victims.
