Kalman Schill

Kalman Schill wurde 1938, als Sohn des Landwirts Idel Schill und seiner Ehefrau Rifke, in Czernowitz geboren, das damals zu Rumänien gehörte. Im Juni 1940 fiel die nördliche Bukowina mit Czernowitz an die Sowjetunion, im Juli 1941 dann wieder zurück an das mit Deutschland verbündete Rumänien. Unmittelbar danach ermordeten rumänische Einheiten und das SS-Einsatzkommando 10b 2.000 Juden. Die Überlebenden wurden in ein Ghetto gezwungen und nach Transnistrien deportiert. Die Umstände des Todes von Kalman Schill sind nicht bekannt.

Kalman Schill was born in 1938 to the farmer Idel Schill and his wife Rifke, in the town of Chernivtsi, then a part of Romania. In June 1940 the Soviet Union took control of northern Bukowina, and with it Chernivtsi; in July 1941 the town came under the control of Romania, which was allied with Germany. Soon afterwards, Romanian troops and SS Mobile Killing Squad 10b murdered 2,000 Jews. Those not caught in this action were forced to live in a ghetto and deported to Transnistria. The circumstances of the death of Kalman Schill are unknown.
