Der Rabbiner Ben-Zion Avramovich lebte mit seiner Familie in Jassy, einem Zentrum jüdischen Lebens im Nordosten Rumäniens. Mit Beginn des von Rumänien unterstützten deutschen Angriffs auf die Sowjetunion am 29. Juni 1941 kam es in Jassy zu antijüdischen Ausschreitungen. Deutsche und rumänische Soldaten trieben tausende von Juden auf das Gelände des Polizeiquartiers und schossen auf sie. Die Überlebenden wurden ohne Verpflegung in versiegelten Viehwaggons tagelang durchs Land gefahren, bis sie qualvoll starben. Einer der Ermordeten war Ben-Zion Avramovich.

Rabbi Ben-Zion Avramovich lived with his family in Iaşi, a centre of Jewish life in northeastern Romania. When Germany and its Romanian ally attacked the Soviet Union on 29 June 1941, Iaşi was the scene of anti-Jewish riots. German and Romanian soldiers rounded up thousands of Jews at the site of the police station and shot at them. The survivors were driven in sealed cattle cars for days across the country, without provisions, until they died in agony. Ben-Zion Avramovich was among those murdered.
