Schüler ermordet 1941 in unbekannt

Marcel Wittner wurde in Jassy geboren. Er wuchs mit seinem älteren Bruder Alfons in der Stadt im Norden Rumäniens heran. Am 29. Juni 1941 fand dort das bis dahin größte Pogrom Rumäniens statt. Mehrere Tausend Juden wurden auf das Gelände des Polizeiquartiers getrieben, wo rumänische und deutsche Soldaten auf sie schossen. Der Schüler Marcel war unter den Überlebenden, die ohne Verpflegung in versiegelte Viehwaggons gesperrt und ziellos durch das Land gefahren wurden. Seitdem fehlt von dem damals 16-jährigen Marcel Wittner jede Spur.

Marcel Wittner was born in Iaşi. He grew up with his older brother Alfons in this city in northern Romania. On 29 June 1941 it was the scene of Romania’s most devastating pogrom to that point. Several thousand Jews were rounded up on the site of the police station, where Romanian and German soldiers shot at them. Marcel, who was a schoolboy, was among the survivors; they were locked into cattle cars and transported through the country, with no provisions. 16-year-old Marcel Wittner was not seen again.
