Bruno Knöpfelmacher

Bruno Knöpfelmacher wurde am 4 Mai 1901 in Ostrava geboren, einer Stadt, die ab 1919 zur neu gegründeten Tschechoslowakei gehörte. Die Stadt war bekannt für ihre Kohle- und Stahlindustrie. Im März 1939 wurde Ostrava in das so genannte Reichsprotektorat Böhmen und Mähren eingegliedert. Wenige Monate später wurden jüdische Geschäfte „arisiert“ und zwei Synagogen niedergebrannt. Am 30.September 1942 deportierte die SS Bruno Knöpfelmacher in das Ghettolager Theresienstadt. Von dort aus wurde er ein Jahr später in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz verschleppt und dort mit Giftgas ermordet. Bruno Knöpfelmacher war 42 Jahre alt.

Bruno Knöpfelmacher was born on 4 May 1901 in Ostrava, a town that became part of the newly created Czechoslovakia in 1919. Ostrava was situated in a well-known coal and steel-producing region. In March 1939 it was annexed to the so-called Reich Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. A few months later Jewish shops were „aryanised - expropriated - and two synagogues were burned to the ground. On 30 September 1942 the SS deported Bruno Knöpfelmacher to the Theresienstadt ghetto camp. One year later he was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp and murdered there with poison gas. Bruno Knöpfelmacher was 42 years old.
