Bernard Kopel

Fabrikant, geboren 1882 in Lodz/Litzmannstadt/Łódź, ermordet 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Der Fabrikant Bernard Kopel wurde am 14. April 1882 in Lodz geboren. Er heiratete Helena Gajsler und hatte mit ihr einen Sohn Eugeniusz. Anfang September 1939 besetzte die Wehrmacht die polnische Stadt. Kurz danach begann die deutsche Verwaltung mit der Konzentration aller Juden im Armenviertel Bałuty. Auch Bernard Kopel musste im Ghetto leben. Bei der Auflösung des Ghettos im August 1944 wurde er höchstwahrscheinlich in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz Birkenau deportiert und dort kurz nach seiner Ankunft mit Zyklon B ermordet. Bernard Kopel war 62 Jahre alt.

The manufacturer Bernard Kopel was born on 14 April 1882 in Lodz. He married Helena Gajsler, and they had one son, Eugeniusz. In early September 1939 the Wehrmacht occupied the Polish city, and soon the German administration began to concentrate all the Jews in the poor district, Bałuty. Bernard Kopel was forced to resettle in the ghetto. During the liquidation of the ghetto in August 1944, he most probably was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp Birkenau, where he was murdered with Zyklon B shortly after his arrival. Bernard Kopel was 62 years old.
