Szymon Fraj

Kaufmann, geboren 1883 in Dunajska Streda/Duna-Szerdahely/Niedermarkt, ermordet 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Szymon Fraj wurde am 2. Juli 1883 in der slowakischen Kleinstadt Dunajská Streda geboren. Er lebte dort mit seiner Frau Emma und war Kaufmann von Beruf. Im März 1944 besetzte die deutsche Wehrmacht den Ort. Kurz darauf wurde die jüdische Bevölkerung zur Zwangsarbeit eingesetzt und ihre Besitztümer beschlagnahmt. Am 15. Juni 1944 deportierten SS-Männer nahezu alle 3000 Juden von Dunajská Streda und Umgebung in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz und ermordeten sie mit Giftgas. Wahrscheinlich war auch Szymon Fraj unter ihnen. Er war 60 Jahre alt.

Szymon Fraj was born on 2 July 1883 in the small Slovakian town of Dunajská Streda. He lived there with his wife Emma and was a merchant. In March 1944 the German Wehrmacht occupied the town. Soon, the Jews were forced to work as slave labourers, and their property was confiscated. On 15 June 1944 SS-men deported nearly all 3,000 Jews from Dunajská Streda and environs to the Auschwitz extermination camp and murdered them with poison gas. It’s likely that Szymon Fraj was among them. He was 60 years old.
