Maria Grinberg

Maria Grinberg, die auch Marisia oder Malka-Gitle genannt wurde, lebte in der polnischen Hauptstadt Warschau. Sie heiratete den Holzhändler und Webereibesitzer Izio Grinberg. Kurz nach dem deutschen Überfall auf Polen am 1. September 1939 floh das Paar nach Wilna. Dort gebar Maria Grinberg am 1. Januar 1940 ihre erste und einzige Tochter Eleonora. Wohl wissend, dass sie alle in Lebensgefahr schwebten, gelang es dem Paar, das Mädchen bei nichtjüdischen Bekannten unterzubringen. Maria Grinberg und ihr Mann wurden wahrscheinlich 1941 oder 1942 im Wald von Ponary erschossen.

Maria Grinberg, whom people also called Marisia or Malka Gitle, lived in the Polish capital, Warsaw. She married Izio Grinberg, a timber merchant and owner of a weaving mill. Shortly after the German assault on Poland on September 1st 1939, the couple fled to Vilnius. There, Maria Grinberg gave birth to the couple’s first and only child, Eleonora, on January 1st 1940. Realizing that they were all in mortal danger, the couple managed to bring their daughter to non-Jewish acquaintances, who took her in. Maria Grinberg and her husband were shot in the forest of Ponary, probably in 1941 or 1942.
