René Rappaport

René Rappaport wurde am 27. Juni 1924 in der südfranzösischen Hafenstadt Marseille geboren. Nachdem die Wehrmacht Ende 1942 die Südzone Frankreichs besetzt hatte, begannen auch in Marseille die Vorbereitungen zur Deportation der Juden. In einer dreitägigen Verhaftungsaktion nahmen französische Polizisten Anfang 1943 etwa 6.000 Personen fest, darunter viele Juden. René Rappaport wurde unter Aufsicht der SS in das Internierungslager Compiègne gebracht und am 25. März 1943 in das Vernichtungslager Sobibor deportiert. Er war 18 Jahre alt.

René Rappaport was born on 27 June 1924 in the harbour city of Marseilles in southern France. After the Wehrmacht occupied the southern zone of France at the end of 1942, Marseilles, too, saw preparations begin for the deportation of its Jews. In a three-day mass arrest action in early 1943, French police took about 6,000 people into custody, including many Jews. René Rappaport was taken under SS guard to the Compiègne internment camp and then to the Sobibor extermination camp on 25 March 1943. He was 18 years old.
