Semion Matz

Semion Matz kam in Bobruisk im Südosten Weißrusslands zur Welt. Er wuchs als einer von 20.000 Juden in der Stadt heran. Semion ging noch zur Schule, als im Sommer 1941 die deutsche Wehrmacht in Bobruisk einrückte. Viele der jüdischen Bewohner waren zuvor geflohen. Semion und seine Eltern blieben und mussten ins Ghetto ziehen. Im Herbst 1941 erschossen Angehörige des SS-Einsatzkommandos 8 unterstützt von Polizeieinheiten mehrere tausend Menschen. Unter ihnen war vermutlich auch Semion Matz. Er wurde 14 Jahre alt.

Semion Matz was born and raised in Babruysk in southeastern Belarus, a city with about 20,000 Jews. He was still a schoolboy when the German Army occupied the city on June 29, 1941. Many of the Jews had already fled. But Semion and his parents stayed and soon were forced to move into a ghetto. In the fall of 1941, members of the SS Mobile Killing Squads commando unit no. 8 shot several thousand people, with the support of police units. Semion Matz was probably amongst those killed. He was 14 years old.
