Hugo Frankl

Kaufmann, geboren 1910 in Preßburg/Pozsony/Bratislava, ermordet 1942 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Hugo Frankl wurde am 20 Mai 1910 in Bratislava geboren, der Hauptstadt der heutigen Slowakei. In der Stadt an der Donau lebten damals etwa 15000 Juden. Ab Ende 1938 wurden Synagogen verwüstet und Juden auf offener Straße attackiert. Im Juli 1942 deportierten Mitglieder der SS etwa 650 Juden aus Bratislava in das Durchgangslager Zilina und von dort aus in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz-Birkenau. Hugo Frankl wurde am 10. August 1942 mit Giftgas ermordet. Er war 32 Jahre alt.

Hugo Frankl was born on 20 May 1910 in Bratislava, today the capital of Slovakia. At that time, this city on the Danube was home to about 15,000 Jews. At the end of 1938, synagogues were destroyed and Jews were attacked on the city streets. In July 1942 SS members deported about 650 Jews from Bratislava to the Zilina transit camp and from there to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Hugo Frankl was murdered there with poison gas on 10 August 1942. He was 32 years old.
