Armin Blau

Arbeiter, geboren 1909 in Preßburg/Pozsony/Bratislava, ermordet 1942 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Armin Blau wurde am 13. August 1909 in Bratislava geboren, der Hauptstadt der heutigen Slowakei. In der Stadt an der Donau lebten damals etwa 15000 Juden. Ab Ende 1938 wurden Synagogen verwüstet und Juden auf offener Straße attackiert. Im Juli 1942 deportierten Mitglieder der SS etwa 650 Juden aus Bratislava in das Durchgangslager Zilina und von dort aus in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz-Birkenau. Armin Blau wurde am 18. Oktober 1942 mit Giftgas ermordet. Er war 33 Jahre alt.

Armin Blau was born on 13 August 1909 in Bratislava, today the capital of Slovakia. At that time, this city on the Danube was home to about 15,000 Jews. At the end of 1938, synagogues were destroyed and Jews were attacked on the city streets. In July 1942 SS members deported about 650 Jews from Bratislava to the Zilina transit camp and from there to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Armin Blau was murdered there on 18 October 1942, with poison gas. He was 33 years old.
