Motteleh Eppelbaum

Motteleh Eppelbaum war der Sohn von Leah und Asher Yosef, einem rituellen Schlachter aus dem polnischen Włodawa. Er wuchs mit zwei Geschwistern und einer großen Verwandtschaft auf. Nach der Besetzung Polens durch die deutsche Wehrmacht im September 1939 nahmen die Besatzer Mottelehs Vater die Metzgerei weg. Anfang 1941 musste der 16-jährige Motteleh mit seiner Familie in ein Ghetto ziehen. Zwei Jahre später deportierten SS-Angehörige ihn und seine Mutter in das Vernichtungslager Sobibor und vergifteten sie mit Kohlenmonoxyd. Motteleh Eppelbaum war 18 Jahre alt.

Motteleh Eppelbaum was the son of Leah and Asher Yosef, a kosher butcher from the Polish town Włodawa. He grew up with two siblings and a large extended family. After the German Wehrmacht occupied Poland in September 1939, the occupiers confiscated Motteleh’s father’s meat business. In early 1941, 16-year-old Motteleh had to move into a ghetto with his family. Two years later, members of the SS deported him and his mother to the Sobibor Extermination Camp and poisoned them to death with carbon monoxide gas. Motteleh Eppelbaum was 18 years old.
